Trouble Shooting
Note: This list is by no means an exhaustive list of solutions. Compiled from Rajdoot Service Digest.
Engine
Fuel System
Wheels
Engine Misfiring / fails to start:
| Moisture / Choking in the carburetors. | |
| Uneven C.B. Points Gap / pitting / wrong ignition timing | |
| Faulty Condenser | |
| Spark Plug Fouled (Which can happen on account of continuous low speed operation or a very rich mixture of excessive oil). i.e. no spark at plug / weak spark at plug. | |
| Loose / cracked spark plug terminals. | |
| Battery in low state of charge | |
| Carburetor mounting not air tight. | |
| Blown Head Gasket. Or Bore Gasket. | |
| Points are arcing or sparking then replace condenser. |
Loss of Power:
| Wrong engine tuning. | |
| Chocked Air filter. | |
| Chocked silencers. | |
| Engine requires decarbonizing | |
| Worn out piston /rings lack of compression. | |
| Ignition timing not set correctly. | |
| Timing is retarded. Advance to correct setting. |
Engine fails to reach high speed:
| Engine requires decabonizing | |
| Chocked Air Filter | |
| Wrong engine tuning. |
Engine overheating:
| Failure of Oil supply. Wrong Oil to fuel ratio. Poor quality 2 Stroke Oil. | |
| Pre-ignition and or / Jetting too lean. | |
| Ignition timing too retarded. |
Difficulty in engaging gears.
| Selector forks or rods bent | |
| Broken springs in gear selector mechanism | |
| Clutch Drag | |
| Worn dogs on ends of gear pinions. | |
| Sticking cam plate plunger. |
Gear shift leaver does not return to center position:
| Broken Return spring. |
Engine RPM builds but machine does not move.
| Clutch Slip. |
Difficulty in engaging gears and engine moves forward with clutch pulled in.
| Clutch drag. |
Clutch lever is hard to pull in / stiff:
| Bent Push Rod | |
| Dry Push Rod | |
| Damaged trapped or frayed clutch cable. |
Engine keeps jumping out of gear.
| Worn dogs on ends of gear pinions. | |
| Defective Cam Plate Plunger. (You can check this without opening up the engine.) |
White Smoke from Exhaust:
| To much oil | |
| Engine needs to be re-bored. | |
| Tank has premix and not pure petrol. | |
| If smoke is only from the right side then the crank seal needs to be replaced. |
Kick starter does not return. Or Slips and Jams.
| Broken Kicker Spring. | |
| Worn rachet assembly. Worn gears on rachet. |

Fuel System:
Poor Mileage:
| Air cleaner choked | |
| Fuel leaking from carbs | |
| Badly worn carbs. | |
| Carb settings incorrect | |
| Wrong size jets. |
Idling speed to high:
| Throttle / Idling screws are in to much. | |
| Carb Stops loose | |
| Mixture too lean | |
| Air leak. |
Engine Sluggish does not respond to throttle
| Silencers are cloged. |
General lack of performance.
| Weak Mixture, float needle sticking in seat. Air leak. |
Oil / Lubrication:
| White smoke from exhausts / Too much oil | |
| Engine heats up and becomes sluggish. / To little oil | |
| Engine dries up and Sizes / Complete oil pump failure or you forgot to reconnect the tubes that carry oil from the pump to the cylinders. |
Wobbling of wheels:
| Loose race bearing | |
| Tyre fitment wrong - imbalanced / not seated properly. | |
| Front wheel axel nut loose. | |
| Rear Swing fork arm nut loose/worn-out bushes & bushings. | |
| Improper tyre inflation. |
Pulling:
| Damaged front fork. | |
| Damaged rear swing fork. | |
| Also check solutions for Wobbling. |
Fuse Blows off: (Short circuiting)
| Can be on account of any one of the circuits. Check by putting different circuits on one by one. | |
| Common points of failure are (Spedo / RPM wiring, Rear Break, Battery terminals, indicators.) |
Battery Discharged:
| Loose connections in he charging circuit | |
| Faulty R.R. Unit | |
| Damaged magneto winding. | |
| Weak / sulphated battery. | |
| Excessive use of lights / horn without starting the engine or running at low speeds. | |
| Ignition or parking lights left on. On Parked motorcycle. |
